Why Rural Matters in Maryland
With nearly three-quarters of a million people living in rural communities, a large percentage of them minorities, Maryland should be giving attention to rural education despite low rankings on most other Importance indicators. Maryland's rural schools and classes are relatively big, a lot of money is spent busing kids, and too many teachers feel parents don't support them, all symptoms of a school and community divide. Conditions warrant serious policy attention.
